Paint to Canvas & How I created my First Mandala
I think Mandalas are beautiful, but it was never something I ever thought I'd be able to draw.
My friend Tami starting doing 8x8 Mandala paintings and decided to host her own Sip & Paint with just friends she knew, focusing on the Mandalas.
It was incredibly interesting for me.
The background was easy-peasy, but when it came to the actual drawing was when I became stuck! 'How the f*** do you draw a Mandala' ... having always looked at them, drawing was a whole other story - far less remembering details.
Tami gave out white chalk so we can draw out the mandalas at first and then paint over the linings.
Thank goodness for Pinterest because the beginning for me was incredibly hard to start! My circle even came out - well - not even a perfect half circle. lol
Eventually my hand took over and guided what I wanted to create - and that's exactly what each mandala should be, a piece of yourself, your creativity, your spirit....you.
At the beginning of the class Tami mentioned keeping a word in your mind of what will create your Mandala, but being my first mandala, all I was focusing on was getting it done with a steady hand, then, at the end, the word that came to mind was 'free'.

That looks so good! Finally, one of those paintings I would actually want in my house!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the philosophy behind this painting. I'm useless at all forms of art but I think this is something I'd really like to try. I don't think it would end up looking half as nice as yours, but it almost sounds like art therapy. Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! I love this post and especially your art. So well done! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun idea! I have never been to a painting class like this, but they are becoming so popular! :) XO - Alexandra

That looks amazing! Mandalas are so intimidating to me so I haven't attempted drawing one yet. Just thinking about it gives me anxiety!
